Statins may slow progressive MS

A high-dose statin almost halves the rate of brain atrophy in patients with progressive multiple sclerosis, UK researchers report in a study published today in the Lancet.

Compared with placebo, 80mg simvastatin per day reduced brain atrophy by 43% per year, according to data from the two-year randomised trial of 140 patients with secondary, progressive MS.
This was a significant finding as studies had
