Statins not a ‘shield of armour’ against cardiac events: Rigby

Pharmacists need to focus on discussing “absolute risk” when talking to patients about statins, according to a senior clinical pharmacy consultant.

Speaking at the Australian College of Pharmacy conference in Hobart last week, leading clinical pharmacist Debbie Rigby told delegates that it was important to shift the language around statins to a balanced discussion, weighing the chance of benefit against the risk of harm.
