THIS arty photo depicts a head of hair as viewed through a circular pinhole occluder, normally used for testing refractive error. Dr Penny Ramsay from Darwin, NT, found herself looking for nits without access to a magnifying glass. Being of that 40-something age when one has moved into the contemplative, but not yet action, phase of purchasing reading glasses, Dr Ramsay put her naked eye close to the child’s scalp and used a pinhole to sharpen her focus.
