STI screening goes online
Primary care patients may soon be able order an STI pathology test online and bypass their GP in the process.
A pilot program launched in NSW and the ACT this week aims to test the effectiveness of SmartSex, an online approach to STI screening which notifies users of their results by SMS within two business days.
The program was developed to improve access to STI testing and to help reduce transmission rates. More than 26,000 new cases of STIs were diagnosed in 2013 in NSW alone, according to the Department of Health, which estimates tens of thousands are
