Storms force GP to bin $5k worth of vaccines

A central coast GP has questioned whether it was necessary to throw out $5000 worth of vaccines after wild weather caused a power outage at his practice earlier in the week.

Dr Patrick Hawkes told Australian Doctor that the temperature of his vaccine fridge increased from the recommended 2-8 degrees Celsius to 17 degrees Celsius during the four hour power outage, and he subsequently discarded all the vaccines under instruction from the local immunisation coordinator.
