Stoush heightens over RACGP opposition to AMA’s exclusivity

Until last year the RACGP had special authority from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)to let GPs within a practice agree on fees and collectively set rates for after hours and VMO visits.

However with this authority having lapsed late last year, the AMA has stepped in with a similar proposal – the key difference being that the price-setting authority would apply to AMA members only, not all GPs as with the lapsed authority.

RACGP president-elect Dr Liz Marles said the AMA was a more appropriate body to hold the price-setting authority
