Doctors can stave off burnout and exhaustion by holding fortnightly powwows during work hours, a randomised trial suggests.

The scheme, in which doctors attended regular group discussions with their peers, also boosted "empowerment and engagement at work", researchers found.

Seventy-four US hospital physicians took part in the study, which ran for nine months then followed up participants at three months and one year later.
