Strong evidence backs antibiotic weight-gain risk

Researchers say they have found the strongest evidence yet that antibiotic use in childhood can result in long-lasting weight problems.

Their review of 164,000 US health records shows antibiotics may have a compounding effect on BMI throughout childhood.

The more doses and the longer children are exposed to antibiotics, the more likely they are to retain weight gained and to gain more weight over time.
