Overseas-trained doctors will now get the support they need to pass exams

Thousands of IMGs will be offered mentors under a Federal Government initiative to help isolated doctors achieve fellowship.

The decision follows long-running concerns about the isolation faced by foreign doctors who travel to Australia to fill areas of need, and whether a lack of support is causing their high failure rates in college fellowship exams.

From January next year, all 5800 non-VR GPs who are not part of the Australian General Practice Training program will be eligible for the programs run by the RACGP and ACRRM.
