Study backs kids’ flu vaccines

Influenza vaccines recommended for use in Australian children are safe, according to a study conducted across multiple states.

But timely safety monitoring should become a funded routine component of the influenza vaccine program in Australia, say researchers.
They found that among 893 eligible children aged six months to under 10 years, 5.5% and 6.5% reported fever after doses one and two respectively; injection site reactions occurred in 21.2% and 6% after doses one and two, and 2.6% sought medical follow-up after dose one and 5.5%
