Study raises new alarm on energy drinks

Cardiologists are urging GPs and parents to monitor adolescent consumption of energy drinks more closely.

They say their research confirms the caffeine-laden soft drinks have serious implications for cardiac health.
Their study, published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology shows that the drinks can trigger sudden cardiac death in young, apparently healthy individuals.
The authors urge doctors to be aware of the arrhythmogenic and anxiogenic potential associated with the drinks.
