Subsidy row prompts GP walkout

It comes after directors of Goolwa Medical Centre, about 100km south of Adelaide, resigned earlier this month from a contract to provide medical services to the South Coast Division Hospital, in nearby Victor Harbour, after 25 years.

It meant the practice’s 14 GPs would no longer provide care to ambulance patients dropped at the medical centre if they were assessed as not needing to be transferred to the hospital.

GPs in Victor Harbour and Middleton also reportedly walked away from the hospital in solidarity, leaving it without a backup
