A successful screening

Pharmacists should be funded to provide a combined cardiovascular screening service, Australian researchers believe.

A trial program saw pharmacists screen 1000 customers aged 65 years and over using an iPhone ECG. Around 1.5% of these patients were identified as having undiagnosed atrial fibrillation.

Interviews with participants revealed the use of such screening technology in community pharmacy is acceptable and well-regarded by both pharmacists and consumers.

Given current shortfalls in opportunistic atrial fibrillation screening levels, and evidence revealing around 64% of AF-related strokes can be
