'Super mozzies' don’t mind repellent

Just when you thought mosquitoes were pesky enough, scientists claim to have discovered a subset of ‘super mozzies' that become resistant to insect repellent within just three hours.

While the first application of N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) keeps the mosquitoes at bay, they quickly adapt their sense of smell to become desensitised to a second spray, tests showed.

The research, published on Thursday in PLOS ONE (online), was conducted on Aedes aegypti
