Surgery reduces ovarian cancer risk

Surgery can prevent the development of ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis, research shows.

A Swedish study has found women with ovarian endometriosis had an 81% lower lifetime risk of epithelial ovarian cancer if they had undergone unilateral oophorectomy.

Women who had all visible endometriotic tissue surgically removed, with or without oophorectomy, reduced their lifetime risk of ovarian cancer by 30%, the study found.
