Sweet pain relief backed for infants

The trick of giving infants a ‘spoonful of sugar' to reduce pain during vaccinations has received tentative backing from the Cochrane Collaboration.

A systematic review on the increasingly popular approach found infants cried for an average of 13 seconds less when given sweet-tasting solutions before painful procedures, compared to water.
