Tamiflu-resistant flu hits Australia

Australian experts are warning that a virulent strain of influenza that is resistant to the anti-flu drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu) has been identified in NSW and appears to be spreading.

A letter published in this week’s New England Journal of Medicine reports that 182 patients presenting in GP clinics, emergency departments and intensive care units in the Hunter New England region of NSW were found to have a strain of the pandemic 2009 influenza virus.
