Tasmania offers free pertussis vaccine to pregnant women
Tasmania is the last state in Australia to offer free pertussis vaccines to pregnant women.
From 1 June, pregnant women will be able to receive the vaccine in their third trimester from GPs or local councils that provide adult vaccination services.
Free pertussis immunisation for pregnant women is already available in all the other states and territories.
The move follows an update to the Australian Immunisation Handbook earlier this year, which recommended the vaccination in late pregnancy.
