Testosterone prescribing lands doctor in trouble

A doctor has been reprimanded for prescribing testosterone to help a man overcome feelings of physical inadequacy after he landed a job in a gym.

Tasmanian GP Dr Wojtek Majchrzak was targeted by regulators for supplying the drug when it was not medically indicated.

Dr Majchrzak said that he was attempting to help his patient who had experienced a prolonged period of unemployment, but had recently been offered a position as a body building assistant.

“The patient reported feeling embarrassed by his body form in contrast to some of his clients who he now instructed,” the Tasmania Health Practitioners Tribunal said in its judgement.

The patient was apparently surprised that the script would not be funded under the PBS.
