TGA bans erectile dysfunction treatment

The TGA has banned the sale of Maxagra, which is marketed as a herbal medication for erectile dysfunction.

This follows TGA tests that found undeclared prescription-only substances in capsules containing the medication. These are sildenafil and the antibiotic oxytetracycline.

The supply of Maxagra capsules is illegal in Australia, says the TGA.

The TGA says health professionals should advise patients not to take the medications, which are mostly available online.

“Advise your patients of the potential risks of buying therapeutic goods online,” it says in statement.
