Thousands of GPs strike on pensions: UK

On Thursday up to 3000 GP surgeries in England took part in the first-strike action by doctors in nearly 40 years in protest over changes to the National Health Service’s pension scheme.

The day saw mixed reports coming out of the UK as to the effectiveness of the industrial action, with a fierce battle over numbers being played out in the media between the British Medical Association [BMA] and the country’s Department of Health [DH].

Both sides claimed strike success over the row on pensions, which will see doctors paying up to 14.5% of their pay
