Three million Aussies down more than six drinks a day

The reported decline in total alcohol consumption is masking alarming patterns of heavy drinking, according to a report that says one fifth of Australians consume three-quarters of all alcohol sold.

Over 1.9 million Australians drink an average of more than six standard drinks a day, which is three times the recommended amount, according to the report based on a study by the Foundation for Alcohol Research & Education (FARE).
