Tighter controls on PBS listing to stay

The Federal Cabinet will keep a tight rein on new drugs entering the PBS, against the recommendations of a parliamentary inquiry.

A Senate inquiry report released last August called on the government to re-instate the “$10 million rule” so that medicines costing the nation less than $10 million each year can be listed on the PBS schedule by the Federal Health Minister without waiting for Cabinet approval.
