Time for a quick wee
11th April 2017
Rubbing cold, wet gauze on an infant's stomach is three times more effective at triggering urination than standard clean catch methods, a trial demonstrates.

Melbourne paediatrician Dr Jonathan Kaufman came up with the 'Quick-Wee' method after noticing that infants tend to spontaneously urinate after their abdomen is cleaned with cold wet gauze before a procedure.
After a promising pilot study involving 40 infants, Dr Kaufman sought to expand the evidence base by comparing the unorthodox technique with the clean catch method in 354 infants aged 1-12 months.
