Clinical advice from Border Force’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on the urgent healthcare needs of asylum seekers was routinely ignored by officials, a former International Health and Medical Services (IHMS) doctor says.

Dr Nick Martin, a former military doctor who worked as a senior physician for IHMS on Nauru, said his requests for urgent medical transfers passed on by CMO Dr John Brayley were regularly ignored or rejected on political grounds by departmental officials.
