Top End’s super clinic workforce woes slowly improving
Reports surfaced last week that Darwin’s Palmerston GP Super Clinic was cutting after hours, but the university-owned company that owns the clinic, FCD Health, said in fact the practice was extending its regular opening hours – to close at 10pm rather than 6pm – meaning it no longer needed a separate after hours service until 10pm.
“We were put here because of a political agenda, as most of the super clinics were, but it just so happened that this area was a significant area of need,” FCD CEO Robyn Cahill told MO.
“There’s clearly a need and this service is using it.”
The super clinic initially faced widespread criticism after it relied on fly-in locums to fill a GP vacancy, but Ms Cahill said the centre now had two full-time GPs, three part-time GPs and three registrars – all but one
