When MO approached the people usually kept busy campaigning for GP affairs, we received a combination of enthusiasm, humour, caution and – inevitably – rank indifference.
“I’ve got an Irish background,” RACGP president Professor Claire Jackson said by way of explaining her decision to have a flutter.
Professor Jackson’s pick is Lucas Cranach, which will have the same jockey who won the Cup (albeit on a different horse) two years ago, Corey Brown.
The choice, Professor Jackson added, was about “being bold and going for something a bit different”. “And also if I lose the $2 sweep my husband owes me big time.”
AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said his last Cup bet, a few years ago, ended up breaking down mid-race and ending up, well, shot. Plus, he said, the whole event involved “too many queues, too much sunburn, too much booze and bad manners”.
