As the year comes to a close, Australian Doctor is counting down the major stories we'll remember from 2017. At number three is the debate that arose around evidence-based medicine.
Doctors have been defending the term since a top US health agency was reportedly discouraged from using it this month. Earlier in 2017, however, clinicians were at loggerheads with evidence-based medicine advocates for taking the concept to 'bizarre' extremes.
Evidence-based medicine clashed head-on with clinical reality this year with a furious row triggered by the high priests of randomised double blind controlled trials — the Cochrane Collaboration.
