Training selection begins, hundreds still to miss out
Health Minister Tanya Plibersek revealed the breakdown of training place numbers by state last week and said the increased number of places, up from 1000 last year, was part of the government’s plan to provide better access to primary care.
“By 2014 we will have doubled the number of GPs in training with more being trained in each State and Territory,” she said.
“This is part of the government’s plan to massively increase the medical workforce and by 2020 there will be an extra 5500 GPs and 680 specialist doctors nationwide.
