Transgender doctor comes out at age 67
One summer morning nearly a decade ago, Dr Robert Jones fronted colleagues at a Christmas breakfast with some important news.
The Adelaide gynaecologist, who was 67 at the time, no longer wanted to be known as Robert.
Instead, colleagues were now to call Dr Jones, ‘Rosie'.
The ‘coming out' lifted the lid on a secret Dr Jones had kept hidden from the wider world for 60 years.
It was a revelation carefully orchestrated with the assistance of a medical team who helped her to finally gain the female body she had fervently desired since childhood.
As she walked into the event to greet the group of doctors and nurses, "I was terrified", Dr Jones recalls.
"These were people I'd worked with for 15 or 20 years but I
