Transparency blueprint questioned

Medicines Australia’s draft Transparency Model Consultation and Discussion Paper seeks to emulate legislation in the US which requires companies to disclose all payments to healthcare professionals over a nominal value.

Measures proposed in Australia include forcing doctors to record payments or equivalent gifts worth as little as $10 and to declare payments of as little as $25.

AMA vice president Professor Geoff Dobb said that while “additional clarity is useful”, rules about conflicts of interest had already become stricter.
