Two big studies bolster coffee’s benefits

Drinking coffee — even decaf — may well prolong life, according to two long-term studies on the beverage's effect on mortality.

The findings support previous evidence of coffee’s association with better health, with more than two cups a day showing the greatest health benefits.

While the authors caution that this may be a result of coffee drinkers being generally healthier, they say it’s plausible that the antioxidant plant compounds in coffee rather than the caffeine are responsible for the life-extending effect.
