Two GPs dead in Queensland plane crash

A police spokesperson said the single engine aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Mundubbera airfield about 7:30am yesterday, and both occupants died at the scene.

Police are working to positively identify the deceased but colleagues have confirmed Dr Dan Rainolds and Dr Myrthe Runne were killed in the accident.

North Burnett Regional Council Mayor Joy Jensen said the small community of Monto, where Dr Rainolds and Dr Runne had been providing locum services, had been hit particularly hard by the news.

“Monto was so pleased to have them,” Cr Jensen said.

“To have our medical practitioners, who are out there looking after us all, lose their lives in service to the community like that is terrible.

“We really do feel our medical practitioners are precious to us in central Queensland and this is a dreadful loss for the whole community,” she said.
