Two GPs killed in Qld light plane crash

Dr Dan Rainolds and Dr Myrthe Runne were killed in the accident, which a police spokesperson said occurred shortly after their single-engine plane took off from Mundubbera airfield about 7.30 am on 30 September.

North Burnett Regional Council Mayor Joy Jensen said the small community of Monto, where Dr Rainolds and Dr Runne had been providing locum services, had been hit particularly hard by the news.

“To have our medical practitioners, who are out there looking after us all, lose their lives in service to the community like that is terrible,” Cr Jensen said.

“We really do feel our medical practitioners are precious to us in central Queensland and this is a dreadful loss for the whole community.”

Rural Doctors Association of Queensland (RDAQ) president Dr Ewen McPhee said both doctors were looking forward to providing long-term locum services in the area.
