Two lessons for snakebite management

Hospitals can safely stock fewer vials of antivenom and do away with snake venom detection kits altogether, according to recommendations from a 10-year review of Australian snakebite management.

More than 1500 people with snakebites between 2005 and 2015 have been followed up by researchers from the University of Newcastle.

Their findings show a trend to lower doses of antivenom over the decade, with no reduction in treatment efficacy — the average number of doses
