Union declares war on payment issues

A union representing employee pharmacists has warned pharmacy owners to pay their people at the correct rate or face legal action.

The legal team that deals with matters such as underpayments reports a sharp rise in cases, says Professional Pharmacists Australia (PPA) national director Matthew Harris.

He said most underpayments in the sector went underreported.

“These sorts of issues are largely unheard of in other areas of health care,” he said.” When was the last time you heard of a general practitioner or nurse being underpaid?

“Be assured that when we uncover pharmacy owners doing the wrong thing, we’ll be letting the profession and wider community know about it, “he added.
