Using central BP can lower drug use

A new approach to measuring blood pressure could reduce overtreatment and lead to one in six patients on antihypertensives stopping their medications, a small study suggests.

An Australian trial found that measuring central blood pressure, in addition to brachial, reduced rates of antihypertensive drug prescribing without any adverse effects.

After a year of having therapy guided by central blood pressure measurements, 16% of patients had ceased
