Vale Dr Margaret Hollands: A gutsy GP committed to care
Dogged and pioneering, the Victorian GP was one of the first female members of the RACGP

Dr Margaret Hollands, who has died aged 83, delivered babies, anaesthetised patients, patched up car accident victims and even performed a post-mortem in her four decades as a GP.

Her can-do attitude and pioneering spirit saw her become, in 1968, one of the first female members of the RACGP. She embraced the challenges of rural medicine at a time when few had gone before her.
She and husband, fellow GP Dr David Hollands, travelled in 1961 from their home in the UK on a 28-day boat voyage to take up a new medical career,
