Vax loss costlier with custom fridges

Purpose-built vaccine fridges are more likely to overheat during power cuts, and lead to greater vaccine loss when they fail, an Australian study suggests.

Researchers found that customised vaccine fridges had fewer cold chain breaches overall than domestic and bar fridges, and were less likely to freeze vaccines through mechanical failure.

But their larger size meant than when they did fail, more vaccine was lost, at a typical cost of $2300. This compared to $1300 for cold chain
