Vertical transmission of hep B on the way out

  Tenofovir in pregnant women with hepatitis B is extremely effective in preventing in utero infection and in combination with vaccination could eradicate the disease altogether, a New Zealand expert says.

Professor Ed Gane, Deputy Director of the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit, was commenting on an Auckland-based study he co-authored in which 50 women with a high load of the hepatitis B virus were given tenofovir to prevent vertical transmission.
