Wait for non-PBS listed meds could take years

The federal government last year broke from its customary practice of automatically listing new products deemed safe, effective and cost-effective by the TGA’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) – and said they must be approved by Cabinet before PBS listing.

Following pressure from industry and consumer groups, the government later said it would automatically allow PBAC-approved products onto the PBS if they were likely to cost under $10 million a year.
