Warning on consumer privacy

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is reminding businesses, government agencies and the community to focus on privacy this year.

“A third of Australians have reported they had a privacy problem in the last year, and the OAIC has received almost 3,000 privacy complaints in the last 12 months — a 50% increase on the previous year,” said Privacy Commissioner, Timothy Pilgrim.

“The message is clear: people care about their privacy, and organisations and businesses should take this seriously.”
