Warning over asylum seeker deaths
The psychiatrist of an asylum seeker who died at a Sydney detention facility last week says further deaths are likely unless mandatory detention is scrapped.
Dr Michael Dudley, who sits on the Federal Governments’ Detention Health Advisory Group, had consulted the Iranian man, aged 44, who died of an apparent heart attack last week.
The patient was being detained in the Sydney Immigration Residential Housing facility adjacent to Villawood detention centre, where he had previously been held.
Dr Dudley has called for an inquest into the death.
