Warning over generics advice

Pharmacists need to take care in reminding patients which medicine they are taking when switching them to a generic, the Australian Pharmacy Liaison Forum (APLF) has advised.

In its latest communique, the APLF expressed its concerns about the possibility of medication errors associated with the use of unfamiliar brand names on generic medicines.
“At present, the generic medicine can be marketed using a different brand name to the original innovator brand,” the communique stated. “It is potentially confusing for the consumer to have a plethora of brand names for a single generic entity
