Warning over legal risks of managing steroid misusers

GPs are being warned they may be putting themselves at legal risk if they offer testing support to patients who use performance enhancing drugs without advising them to stop.

People misusing drugs, such as anabolic steroids, are turning to their GP for assistance in the form of regular monitoring tests, a study from Queensland has found.  

In a survey of 21 PIED users, most said GPs were unwilling or lacked the knowledge to help them, but a substantial minority said they were able to get their GPs’ support in accessing testing services.
