Warning over social media approaches by lovelorn patients

A patient who used the social networking site LinkedIn to ask a doctor out on a date highlights how social media is increasingly being used to stalk and harass clinicians. 

One medical defence organisation says the recent case — where a woman used the networking platform to profess her interest in an emergency physician who treated her in a NSW ED — is one example of inappropriate contact via social media from patients that it now deals with on a fortnightly basis.
