General Practice Registrars Australia is at the centre of a political storm after it apparently lobbied the Federal Government to disband GPET and 17 regional training providers.

GPET was axed in this month's budget, with its role and functions to be run from within the Department of Health from January next year.

Regional Training Providers (RTPs) will be wound up and replaced by a smaller number of organisations.
