Watchful waiting vs surgery for tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy results in a drop in recurrent sore throats and streptococcal infections in the first year after surgery but longer-term outcomes are unclear, according to new research.

A systematic review of seven studies measured the benefits over watchful waiting over surgery for children with mild-to-moderate throat infections.
Watchful waiting could include an intervention such as antibiotics.
