We can handle the surge in renewals: AHPRA
AHPRA has moved to reassure GPs it is well positioned to handle an expected surge in registration renewal applications, with almost 20% of doctors yet to renew ahead of Friday’s deadline.
The AMA and RACGP last week questioned how the agency would handle a late rush, but an AHPRA spokesperson said a late surge in applications close to the due date was expected.
“AHPRA has everything in place to manage any late surge in applications,” she said.
“Our priority is making sure that every practitioner who wants to continue to practise has applied to renew on time. Online applications are easy and straightforward through [the medical board website].
“AHPRA and the board have worked closely with the professions to make sure every practitioner who is due to renew is aware of their responsibility and understands the consequences of not renewing on time.”
