The purported health benefits of drinking red wine are many and varied, with the latest research suggesting there may be something in it that is good for the arteries.

US researchers report that the antioxidant, resveratrol, which is found in red wine, and also berries, peanuts and the skin of red grapes, may help to reduce artery stiffness in some people with type 2 diabetes.

It must be pointed out that none of study participants with type 2 drank red wine for research purposes but to measure aortic stiffness they did agree to consume 100 mg per day of resveratrol supplement for two weeks followed by 300
